THE IMPORTANCE OF CHANGING YOUR BRAKE FLUID
Did you know the average motorist drives 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year and uses their brakes about 75,000 times? Or that after two years of service the boiling point of brake fluid has dropped to a potentially hazardous level because of moisture contamination?
Experts recommend replacing the brake fluid in your motorcycle every year as preventative maintenance. The possibility of contaminating brake fluid on a motorcycle is much higher than a car due to the extreme exposure of the brake hoses and seals.
If motorcycle riders follow this advice and change their brake fluid annually they will greatly reduce the risks associated with moisture-contaminated brake fluid. This is especially true on BMW motorcycles that have ABS. BMW ABS modulators have small components and seals inside that can become damaged by contaminated or old brake fluid. By changing brake fluid periodically from the conception of the motorcycle you can extend the life of these units by years.
